Bourne Mansion · 45 Bourne Lane, Oakdale, NY 11769
Bourne Mansion — the former Frederick Bourne estate on the Connetquot River in Oakdale — is pure Gilded-Age drama: a marble entrance hall, a grand staircase, columns outside, and a lawn that runs to the water. It’s one of the more cinematic venues on the South Shore.
What the venue gives you
A double-height marble hall with a sweeping staircase and balcony, formal panelled rooms, a colonnaded exterior, and a rear lawn with river views. Interiors are grand but the light is warm and mixed — expect to balance chandelier tungsten against tall cool windows.
Where the portraits happen
- The marble hall and grand staircase — the showpiece; shoot from the balcony and from the floor.
- The exterior colonnade and front steps — strong architecture, covered.
- The rear lawn to the river — open sky and water; best at golden hour.
- The fountain and garden edges — for tighter, softer frames.
Timeline notes
Do the staircase and hall portraits before cocktail hour fills the space, then step out to the river lawn about 30–40 minutes before sunset. A first look on the colonnade earlier in the day is a strong option and gives you the grounds without guests.
The rain plan
Excellent. The marble hall, the staircase and the panelled rooms are more than enough for a full portrait set. The covered colonnade lets you get an exterior architectural frame without stepping into the rain.
