The Foundry · 42-38 9th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101
The Foundry in Long Island City is a converted 1800s iron foundry — exposed brick, a skylit atrium filled with greenery and candlelight, and an ivy-covered courtyard. Raw industrial texture with a romantic finish, minutes from the Manhattan skyline.
What the venue gives you
A brick main hall with beams and chandeliers, a glass-roofed atrium with plants and vines, an ivy courtyard, and a short walk to Gantry Plaza State Park with its Long Island City signage and full Manhattan skyline across the East River.
Where the portraits happen
- The skylit atrium — daylight, brick and greenery; the signature frame.
- The ivy courtyard — a green, private-feeling exterior.
- The brick hall and staircase — texture and candlelight.
- Gantry Plaza / the LIC waterfront — the Manhattan skyline, a few minutes’ walk.
Timeline notes
The atrium is best with daylight coming through the skylight, so do interior portraits before sunset. Budget 20–25 minutes including the walk if you want the waterfront skyline at golden hour. The courtyard works any time.
The rain plan
The atrium and brick hall are strong, weather-proof frames — arguably the venue’s best. Only the waterfront skyline walk depends on the sky.
