Photographing a Wedding at The Metropolitan Building

A vintage event room crammed with antique furniture, mirrors and chandeliers
Every room is a different set. The plan is which three rooms, in what order.

The Metropolitan Building · 44-01 11th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101

The Metropolitan Building in Long Island City is several floors of antique-filled event rooms, each with its own character — velvet, mirrors, chandeliers, old signage — plus a rooftop with a Manhattan skyline view. It’s a venue that hands a photographer a dozen sets.

What the venue gives you

Multiple styled rooms across different floors — parlors, industrial spaces, a room of mirrors, a greenhouse-like space — all crammed with antiques, plus a rooftop deck with the skyline. Warm, layered, and endlessly varied; the challenge is choosing.

Where the portraits happen

  • The antique parlors — velvet, mirrors and lamplight.
  • The industrial floor — brick, steel and big windows for contrast.
  • The rooftop — the Manhattan skyline at golden hour.
  • The freight elevator and stairwell — a gritty connector frame.

Timeline notes

Pick two or three rooms in advance with the venue so portrait time isn’t spent wandering. Do the rooftop at golden hour and the interior rooms around it — the antiques photograph well in any light because it’s all lamplit.

The rain plan

The interior rooms are the main event and don’t care about weather. Only the rooftop is sky-dependent, and even a moody skyline reads well from up there.

Frequently asked questions

Can we use any room we want for photos?
Rooms are booked for different parts of the event, and some may be set for other functions. We coordinate two or three specific rooms with the venue ahead of time.
Is it the same building as The Foundry?
Different venue, same LIC neighborhood and same era of industrial building — both are converted early-1900s structures a short distance apart.
